You may remember Säde Sonck from the International Tattoo Festival, an event that proudly featured tattoo artists from all over the world – Finland included. This year, the young tattooist (and winner of a Best of Show award at Cantal In’k in 2014 for her ultra-lifelike Gremlins) is organising a new tattoo festival on her own stomping grounds in Scandinavia. Here’s the skinny.
Event name: Unique Art Tattoo Festival (or UATF).
Place: Hämeenlinna, a town in southern Finland 100 km north of the capital, Helsinki.
Dates: 24 and 25 July 2015.
Objective: To give tattoo artists a chance to show off their talent – with panache…
Come enjoy seminars…
The Unique Art Tattoo Festival puts the world of tattooing on display in a relaxed and close-knit atmosphere, featuring not only tattooing but street art as well. Festival-goers can attend a wide array of tattooing seminars, including:
- a seminar on hygiene by Nicolas Kluger
- a burlesque workshop led by Olivia Rouge
- a workshop on pin-up posing, also led by Olivia Rouge
- a seminar on creating and selling art on the internet, led by Henri Yoki
- graffiti classes
- street-art classes
- a tattooing seminar led by American Todd Grant
- classes on the use of colour
- drawing classes
…and plenty of entertainment
The tattoo convention in Finland, co-organised by Säde Sonck, will also feature shows and activities galore, including:
- pin-ups offering make-up and hair-dressing
- a Polynesian pyrotechnics show
- bands and DJs
- art and photography exhibitions
- Dita Von Teese lingerie fashion shows
Festival-goers can also check out the "Bike Show" (a partner event of the Finnish tattoo convention), which will be held at Verkatehdas – the same venue as the Unique Art Tattoo Festival. The event was the biggest gathering of motorcycles in Finland in 2013, bringing together some 2,500 two-wheelers and nearly 8,000 people in a single day!
